A jewellery store at Cavendish Mall in Cape Town was robbed on Sunday morning, Western Cape police said.

Lt-Col Andre Traut said a gang of four held staff at gunpoint around 11am and stole watches.

Traut said the robbery took place after Claremont police participated in a routine fire drill, resulting in the mall being evacuated.

I was there this morning. Was having breakfast at Woolies and as I got my coffee the fire alarm went off. Had to evacuate and wait for 45 mins to be let back in and resume breakfast. Wasn't a great start to the day. Had no idea this was going on either.

No, they were actually very nice about it. Gave me a new coffee and breakfast was delicious and hot. Must be a really inconvenient thing for a restaurant. They have to shut down the kitchen, then re-start it and a number of people must have left with out paying as it was noticeably emptier after the evacuation.
