China's first stealth fighter jet has made its maiden flight, according to photos published by state media on Tuesday, just as US Defense Secretary Robert Gates paid a key visit to Beijing.

That's not the point of having weapons in general. You want your potential adversaries to know that you have the potential to cause them serious harm.

It is a 'made in china' stealth fighter. It will probably poison the pilots with lead paint or simply drop out of the sky before it reaches its target. I wouldn't be too intimidated

The F117 was operational for 5 years before it was revealed to the public, officially at least.

I'm sure the F22 and the new Chinese fighter were tested long before the media launch.

The F22 was a completed prototype in 1991.

I think its fairly safe to assume that it was an operational aircraft by say 1996 - 1997.. even though it only "officially" entered service 2005

I saw an american one go down in smoke because they never put some bolts back .

1 billion gone in seconds because of 5 nuts and bolts.
