Article: Cosatu and Nationalisation

The Congress of South African Trade Unions was not confused about its call for nationalisation, Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi said on Sunday.

Nationalisation was a policy of the tripartite alliance which emanated from the 1955 Freedom Charter, Vavi said in Durban at the federation's KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Shopsteward Council.

Vavi, I think your 1955 freedom charter is out dated and needs a review.

"Any revolution that does not address who owns what will not be a revolution," he said.

Always thought redristribution of wealth is revolution's ultimate goal.

Vavi, here have some muthi .. it'll make you bullet-proof so you can vanquish your enemies.

Hahaha, many years ago there were stories of freedom fighters turning into cabbages and molehills to avoid detection by pursuing apartheid security forces.

Why does Africa always need to learn the hard way!

Me, Myself and I is solely what they care about.

Sounds like the transkei cabbage was making it's rounds amongst the comrades.

Nothing new here. Something COSATU has been preaching since 2009

Nationalisation is going to happen; it is merely the way in which it will be implemented that must be decided - COSATU

Nationalisation will affect mining industries in SA, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela. It will impact all the big mining companies who are exposed to the risk.

AngloAmerican vs. Chile government is just one of the few examples of uncertainties/risks of mining in the developing nations.
