Article: Council laptop tested for porn

Police have confiscated the laptop used by a Western Cape DA councillor to establish whether he had loaded child pornography on it, The Times reported on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Captain Mzikayise Moloi said the Swellendam council-owned laptop had been sent for tests.
 
Is it just me or does having someone check your computer for child porn strike me as sort of like having a police officer shoot up on the heroine they found on you to check that it is heroine?
 
I hope the hard drive was imaged before the police took it... for various reason including loss of laptop, evidence tampering etc. An image can be mounted and easily investigated, even deleted and erased files can be recovered.

The original image can also be compared to the laptop drive in case there is any doubt of evidence disputes etc.

nah, it's easy to distinguish images based on their volume, where they are hidden, what the nature of the pics are, etc. people have all their obsessions, some people are also baby crazy without it being a sexual fetish

This stuff has to hold up in a courtroom. I doubt they are going to be able to say "well it could just be the dude's wedding photos inappropriately labeled but the files were about the right size to be child porn so we are fairly confident".

At some point surely someone has to look at those photos? (or videos or whatever these kiddie-fiddlers are into these days)
 
was this the same person accused of having 'kinky porn' last week? if so, how did it got from kinky to child porn?

i guess it's the equivalent of a straight guy looking at gay porn. i mean someone who is into the kiddy fiddling and someone who isn't will see two completely different pictures, but they can still both agree on what it is :)

Good point.

So like everyone gets a high from heroine whereas not everyone gets their jollies off looking at indecent pictures of kiddies.
 
What is their motivation for doing this? Is it that he is a DA councillor or do they have actual suspicions of him using child porn?
 
Innocent until PROVEN guilty. I hardly believe this guy is stupid enough to have child porn on his laptop at work. If there was prawn at all on his laptop I'm sure they were teens... 18 year old ones. Perhaps the ANC comrade can't distinguish between 16 and 18. Hey wena!
 
I remember a Swellendam DA councillor tuning DASO for their youth picture because "it promoted sex". :D They got some hectic NP throw backs in that place it seems.
 
I may be wrong, but does'nt SA legislation say that it is under age porn if the person "appears" to be under age?
