The laws are enforced in aus. The people don't drive faster because they get caught every time and are fined everytime then loses their license.
We met ausies that has never driven faster than 120 ever and has only once been a bit tipsy when driving.
The important part of the law is enforcing it.
Yes, but the visible police presence is no greater here than in SA. Here there are speed cameras, you get a fine in the post, includes demerit points eg 3 pts for 15km over (double demerit pts on long weekends like right now), if you don't pay the statutory body dealing with fines (not police nor traffic dept) has the right to confiscate your property after cancelling your licence, deregistering your car etc. You actually don't need to see the police at all so you can't even bribe them.
For the clowns that say speed doesn't kill they are delusional. Yes there are other factors, but speed alone is responsible for exaggerating those factors and speed alone is responsible for the severity of trauma once you have crashed.
The aussie national car driver + passenger deaths went from 1190 to 900 between 2001and 2010 PER ANNUM. Whats that like the amount you get in a holiday weekend? And we have more cars than you do.
Our speed limits maximum on a fully divided freeway within the greater Sydney Metropolitan is 100kmh. Fully divided freeway between major towns 110kmh, other non metro rds 80kmh, within metro 70kmh on a decent arterial , 50kmh in suburbs and 40kmh near schools.
We used to drive just like you guys, but when we get back we absolutely freak out at the way ALL of you drive with your small second old cars. We drove to PE and back from CTN last year at 120kmh on a narrow two way 'national road' and we didn't overtake anyone yet we had small cars with obvious defects come screaming at us to give way onto a shoulder where you have no visibility of any stationary vehicle, pedestrian or cycle. What the hell is with that gesture of hazards etc-- I know we did it too, but it is absolutely madness and you ALL do it.
It is quite simple. Stop blaming the roads and make the speed limit suitable to safe driving on the particular road, have cars registered and road worthied EVERY year and EVERYTIME it changes hands.
You all think you are great drivers but the facts speak for itself when one looks at the death toll. Your minister tries to help you and save innocent lives and you pour **** on him.
Oh hang on, none of you are bad drivers...my bad.
