Article: DA beats 2009 figure

The Democratic Alliance surpassed the total number of votes it garnered in the Western Cape in 2009, with a little over a million ballots still to be captured on Thursday.

By 3.20pm the ruling party in the province had won 1,050,459 of a possible 2.9 million registered voters for 57.28 percent of the ballot compared to the 989,132 (48.78 percent) at the end of the count in 2009.

Good For them. Must be those scared out of their minds "clever Blacks" that now are manipulated to vote ANC.

Nice to see that the people of the Western Cape approve the work that was done by the DA since the last election.
Pity that the results so far show the other regions will not get a change of local government.

They wouldn't get a change of local government just yet anyway... at least at a metro level...

That is where I expect the DA to make their biggest inroads, they will win metro's, govern them and then people will vote for them in National Elections.

At times in my opinion what kept the DA strong by keeping their public servants in order are due to their territories being highly centralised, thus more controllable. It will be shame to see a "known" corrupt DA metro.

That's what I try to convince myself of, only problem is that that requires logic and the majority vote with the hearts and not their heads :(

It's the "refugee" factor that increased their count, :D but the "locals" countered that by getting off their laid back bums and voting.
