Article: DA must become ruling party: Zille

The DA can only implement its policies when it becomes the ruling party, leader Helen Zille said on Saturday.

"We can only implement our policies when we are the government. We cannot do so in opposition," she told delegates at the party's federal congress in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.

But do one not have to ask this:

When the enemy has been fought and won... how long before the fighting begins with each other.

Nelson Mandela said:
Above all, we want equal political rights, because without them our disabilities will be permanent. I know this sounds revolutionary to the whites in this country, because the majority of voters will be Africans. This makes the white man fear democracy.

But this fear cannot be allowed to stand in the way of the only solution which will guarantee racial harmony and freedom for all. It is not true that the enfranchisement of all will result in racial domination. Political division, based on color, is entirely artificial and, when it disappears, so will the domination of one color group by another. The ANC has spent half a century fighting against racialism. When it triumphs it will not change that policy.

It is a real pity that the ANC cannot revisit some of the statements made in the past and realise just how badly we're getting it wrong.

What the DA needs is a black face so it can finally change its "white party" image, Zille can still run things from behind the scenes but maybe it's time we have a puppeteer that actually wants the best for the country. Problem with Zuma is that the puppeteer there lost control of the puppet, now look what has happend.

I always find it funny when ANC members/supporters lambaste the DA as if they were the ruling party in Apartheid SA. They fail to realise the DA was the former DP, a minority party - not the NP. The NP were the Nats who were in rule and later became the NNP and eventually merged with the ANC.

So whatever they're lashing out agains the DA for it's "apartheid sins" is effectively the sins of their own party members.

Any idea who Lindiwe Mazibuko is?

My perception is that recently many, even most, of the black callers on Talk Radio 702 are unhappy and disillusioned, some even disgusted, with what has become of the ANC.

I don't think it's that far-fetched that the DA may become the ruling party within the next two decades.

The DA consists of hodge-podge of factions whose only thing in common is that they can't get elected over an ANC candidate any other way.

The result is that the DA doesn't actually stand for anything other than being anti ANC. If the ANC does implode, and the DA takes over, it will result in a feeding frenzy for power and position, with little or no regard for solving the countries problems.

However, I don't see the ANC imploding any time soon. They have become experts in fooling the majority with visions of white oppression. The majority would rather have a corrupt ANC than live under this vision of white oppression that the ANC is doing so well to promote, and that many white idiots help to reinforce.

Obviously a troll. Has a different opinion to you.

He has a different opinion to me, too. But the mark of the troll is not differing opinion, it is the hit and run posting. Making a controversial claim without substantiation is classic trolling.

If Overpriviledged wishes to argue his case, I am all ears.

The DA and ANC share almost all policies - there really is not that much to differentiate them in policy. What the DA does do is apply the policies well: hence the W. Cape is well run, whereas the other provinces are mired in corruption and controversy. (audited accounts, anyone?)

Your claim that the DA is a hodge-podge equally applies to the ANC: the bizarre mix of left & right in that party is more than just a "hodge-podge" - it is a disaster which constantly threatens to unravel the party.
