Article: DA supports ANCYL on tolls

Actually, the DA first said that they would scrap the tolls fee, and then the ANCYL did. So the headline should read: ANCYL supports DA on tolls.
 
It seems the DA has learn't its lesson from the previous election with regards to publicly agreeing with other parties. In the past the DA would have attacked the ANCYL instead, that was a bad thing as it projected the DA as a bunch of muther grundies.

Reality is that even JuJu can at times mumble things we have to agree with.

At least now the DA is saying yes, your ANCYL leadership is saying things you and we agree with, so now that we have common ground, look at how we will implement these changes compared to what your leadership is doing. Its called comparative selling and I use to use it with near 100% success in my sales days.

It's high time the ANC led government lists on the JSE since their motive is not service delivery but profit making i.e. tenderpreneuring. They should be using the levies on fuel to subsidise the road improvements, at the end of the day it's government duty to provide quality roads. If there no levies on fuel then I would gladly pay the tolls. IMO
 
It's pointless trying to agree with ANCYL on anything. They will just turn around and insult you and call you racist. That is all they know.

It's like the Park Ranger agreeing with a flock of ducks that they sometimes accidentally eat pooh.

The DA on Thursday supported the ANC Youth League in its criticism of proposed toll fees for Gauteng roads.

“We agree with the ANCYL’s Gauteng secretary Ayanda Kasa-Ntsobi that the tariffs are 'unjustifiably expensive' and that 'there is nothing fair or equitable about the proposed tolling system',” Democratic Alliance spokesman Jack Bloom said.

“We also agree that it will adversely affect economic growth and hit the poor the hardest.”

Kasa-Ntsobi said in a statement on Wednesday the ANC Youth League in Gauteng was “vehemently opposed” to the tariffs and demanded that its implementation “not just be postponed, but that it is shelved immediately”.

Bloom said he was interested to know if the ANCYL's leader in Gauteng Lebogang Maile, who is also the MEC for sport, arts, culture and recreation, agreed with Kasa-Ntsobi's statement.

“This is what leadership is all about,” said Bloom. “You can’t have it both ways. If you support the scrapping of tolls then you must resign from the provincial cabinet as Premier Nomvula Mokanyane has rejected this.”

Mokonyane has said she is not opposed to the idea of a tolling system but did express concern about the high prices announced by the SA National Roads Agency in February.

Motorists were going to pay up to 66 cents a kilometre when travelling on the 185km tolled freeway network.

The Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) threatened national strike action if the tariffs were implemented.

The transport department has since then agreed to hold more consultations about the matter.

Transport Minister S'bu Ndebele is expected to receive a report on this by the end of April. - Sapa
