Article: Ebola vaccine expected next year

Studies are underway to determine whether an Ebola vaccine is safe for humans, the World Health Organisation said on Monday.

"I think we have made very good progress but we are at the start of the journey. We are doing the very first studies in humans to find out if the vaccines are safe," the WHO's Dr David Wood told reporters in Pretoria.

Step 2: Make a vaccine that's untested and would most probably cause more harm in the long term than not

-Its not stupid to be scared of ebola its a virus like nothing you have ever encountered in real life. With the modern world so connected it is not far fetched to think this virus has the ability to seriously threaten global populations. Its a virus that hides as a common cold and can kill you within 48 hours depending on the individual. Its extremely difficult to treat due to the speed of the infection.

-The vaccine might cause more harm than good maybe but conversely it can do more good than harm like eradicating ebola.

- As with most immunisation programmes the cost will fall on government

I just hope that if ebola reaches SA our government will not be stupid and not refuse to quarantine the infected (like that for XDR-TB). It has the potential to do serious damage
