Article: Electricity tight: Eskom

South Africans need to use electricity more sparingly this week because the system is "tight", Eskom said on Thursday.

"The system is tight and customers are urged to switch off all non-essential appliances, particularly over the evening peak," it said in a system status bulletin.

Its not our job to save, its their job to provide. If I want to save power, it will be for my own purposes and not because the only electricity provider can't keep up with demand. This is why I hate monopoly's.

Eskom, the country's flagship BEE project. How's that working out for you now?

Come to think of it....everything this incompetent anc government decided to close, are now being reopened. I am thinking colleges, training facilities, etc.

Yeah, they knew how to do everything better....

Eskom claims it is running out of electricity. It has been doing so since 2007. I found it amazing that just after they got their ~34% year-on-year increases, the rolling blackouts stopped. What a coincidence. Also, blackouts that happened since then, from what I have read and seen, have mostly been due to equipment failure either caused by lack of maintenance or stress induced by the rolling blackouts. I would have expected that losing an entire turbine, with the already severely stressed network, would have brought back rolling blackouts but, thankfully, the system coped. Now Eskom wants us to use less electricity but pay more per kWh. So we are to make sacrifices but they party on with bigger and better profits, bonuses and parties.

When will it be our time to Hope? When will it be our time for change? What will it take to end this constant rape-age?

Those adverts on TV just irritate me, that and the 49m ones.

Sure, we should all do our part to conserve energy, I am constantly turning off unused lights at my place, but the mere fact that Eskom is suggesting they can't keep up with demand is a slap in the face to all South Africans in light of the fact that they blackmailed us for the last few years with constant increases in tariffs.

Eskom have stated that electricity usage has decreased due to their requests, which in turn means that revenue will decrease. Unless they charge more.

Thus by using less electricity we will cause an increase in tariff and the better we comply with decreasing usage the more it is going to cost us. Additionally the lower the income, the more staff incentives by way of bonuses and parties will be needed.

Damn, what a great business model!!!

I'm going to try it.

Ochit, I don't have a government sponsored monopoly :(

this is probably the first company I have heard off that asks you to buy less of the product they are selling...
