External "powers" often take cases away from the police, MPs heard on Thursday.

"We have been told in many instances of late that we don't have rights to investigate certain case dockets," acting national police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said during a briefing on the SA Police Service's strategic plans for 2012/13.
 
Yes, we know.

The police doesn't have the right to investigate certain dockets because some ANC politicians are implicated.

No surprises there. Things pretty much fell apart after the Scorpions were disbanded.
 
I remember the police under fivaz and the one before him, the days of discicpline, authority and good investigation.
Cops were cops for the love of being a cop and helping people.

Now its riddles with corruption, politics, lazy incompetent morons mostly and people who are there for the wrong reasons

SAPS no longer has the same function as it did in those days.

Nobody in this country seems able to see how SAPS has been transformed into Zuma's personal army whose primary function is to look after the security of the ANC and chief comrades in the same way as the KGB did in communist Russia.

For an accurate SAPS mission statement one only needs to read up on Mbokodo which was always the model for the future SAPS. The fate of Thami Zulu should also give readers (especially Julius) food for thought
 
And .. all eyes on Zuma for that 'political solution to a criminal problem' of his. Remember how the 'secret tapes' suddenly appeared just when they were most needed?
