Article: Foreigners flee Soweto

More foreign national businessmen fled from the volatile Soweto, south of Johannesburg on Thursday.

Johannesburg metro police escorted five trucks loaded with goods a group of Bangladeshi managed to save when their shops were looted at Ikwezi train station in Mofolo.

Posted this elsewhere, but I saw this on Twitter this morning and thought it just sums up some of the mindsets.

Caller on the @702JohnRobbie just said he is not a thief but an opportunistic looter.

LOL, now the poor in Soweto can pay more for their goods.

Cut your nose off to spite your face mentality.

Like crabs in a bucket.

Probably rooted from smart arses who incite hate speech.

Why on earth would they be fleeing? The State insists that they are safe from any form of xenophobic attack...

Just change the label to "looting". I'm sure the foreigners will do a 180 degree and come on straight back.

Be patient, the minister will probably realise it's Xenophobia near the end of this week and then claim he was misquoted, after which they'll spend a whack of our Gauteng budget on an insider procurement coup (for some relative) to buy tents and blankets at inflated rates, poorly constructed in about a month's time at some inappropriate location, with half the stuff taken by officials before it even gets there. Then the minister will walk around shaking hands with the smiling, profusely thankful refugees, followed by TV crews from SABC and other fawning media houses.

Well, this morning there was shortage of bread in some parts of Soweto
