Article: Fracking Trojan horse warning

Reports that oil and gas multinational Shell is reviewing its plans for fracking outside the Americas could be a "Trojan horse", the Treasure Karoo Action Group (TKAG) said on Tuesday.

"Shell is a seasoned campaigner and what may at first blush appear to be a withdrawal from Karoo shale gas, may just be a Trojan horse," TKAG head Jonathan Deal said in a statement.

Deal needs to go back to his beautiful suburb. This guy irritates me. Zuma might be an idiot but he was spot on when he said that fracking could be a game changer for the Karoo and SA. That gas could greatly improve the economy and create thousands of jobs, directly and indirectly.

Love the thread/article title :D and wouldn't be surprised if Treasure Karoo Action Group is right on this one.

So after fracknation...fracking still seen as bad? Appart from large water consumption....why?

Some people want to spite the ANC from making gazillions from fracking. Others don't want their peaceful countryside lifestyles encumbered. What does it really matter to you? Do you work in mining or construction or do you think it will give the economy a boost and enrich the poor?

Fracking has been banned in Texas.. Where fracking began. People are fighting it around the world and are winning. South Africa just has to put up a fight too.

Deal needs to go back to his beautiful suburb. This guy irritates me. Zuma are for sure an idiot but he was spot on when he said that fracking could be a game changer for his private back pocket and Swiss bank account. That gas could greatly improve the corruption and create thousands of ANC millionaires, directly and indirectly yet very few of the normal struggling people in need will see or get any benefit..
Fixed!

TKAG said this could be a clever ploy to pressure government into speeding up shale gas exploration licences and regulations.

This is speculation. When Government wants to award licences to a company that benefits ANC, they will do so without care. They don't need Shell to pressure them into making a decision that benefits ANC. They never needed to follow due process in the past. They are brutal when ANC has to gain.

Wrong. One town tried to ban it and the state government has made it clear they aren't going to allow individual towns to stand in the way of fracking.

I am a South African and I am interested in what happens in my own country. Does that present a problem to you?
