Article: Full moon messes up your sleep: research

Swiss researchers said Thursday that people really do have a hard time getting a good night's sleep when the moon is full, even when they can't see it.

The results of a study on 33 volunteers published in the journal Current Biology showed that people took longer to fall asleep at night and slept for a shorter time during a full moon.

It's hard to fall sleep when you know the werewolves will be out. Not to mention the incessant howling.

My hypothesis is that all through the ages of mankind, you had to be on the “look-out” during the full moon because of the longer lighting/hunting conditions for the pray animals.

Only 33 volunteers?

I've complained about this to my wife and she thought I was crazy now I've scientific proof to back me up.
It's happens too often to be coincidence i toss and turn and I can't fall asleep and then then when I look out the window when I am wondering around unable to sleep or then next day i notice it's a full moon.

I'm the same - I can tell if it's a full moon just by how I sleep.

I also have weird dreams - i.e. weirder than normal - during a full moon.

I long ago decided that I was a lunar-tic

In a related story, research shows that 80% of people think that researchers should stop wasting their grant money on crap and get busy researching a working hoverboard already.

Apparently the full moon and tides affect women's periods. Any truth in that?

Our could it be, the effects of the gravitational pull, on the H2O in our bodies ?? At molecular level ?? affecting the natural symphony of processes that gets us to slumber...??

I struggle to sleep during a full moon purely because it's so light out... I need complete darkness to fall asleep.

Block out curtains although i think normal curtains will work with the moon :p, unless you sleep out for some reason haha.

Big windows with white(I think) or whiteish curtains... Look I don't have a say in home decoration, that would really unleash the "werewolf" on my as$ if I started to dictate things like that. I think sleeping outside would then actually become a viable option.

It's true. I am on sleeping pills from the new moon to the full moon. After that, I am fine.

True story .. the word lunatic comes from lunar, the moon, so even in the olden days there was a correlation between the full moon and when teh crazies come out.

Another thing .. scientific fact: moon causes tides by gravitational pull, we are made of 90% water .. of course the moon is going to have some influence on our bodies, not?

<husly voice>Can you feel the tug of the moon tonight? It's calling .. come, come my precious .. </>
