The driver of a white Volkswagen Golf GTI has been arrested for driving 225km per hour in a 120km zone on the N1 in Midrand, Johannesburg metro police said on Wednesday.

"He will appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court with seven others arrested at the same place [on Tuesday]," Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

225 in an ordinary road car, well that's asking for k@k. In a perfect world normal road cars would be governed to 140 max. I'm still waiting for cars to be locked to speed limits but yeah that takes a law change and that's not happening anytime soon...

hmmm well people will get around it. People like speed so why not just remove the speed limit intercity national roads only for one lane and charge them to use the no speed limit lane. More people will drive more people will end up in the smaller towns to distribute the wealth.

If I had a ferrari and there was no speed limit I wouldnt be flying locally.

problem is some golf idiot in his MK 1 will be in the lane doing 160kph thinking he driving at the speed of sound and cause an accident.
