Article: Guantanamo bay turns 10

I just find it odd these "human rights violations" that occur on a far greater scale at these other detention centres receive no attention yet little old Gitmo causes a **** storm. It's illogical to me at least.

Freedom, humans rights. Who drums on about it alan?

And it's illogical to me the level of defense people lend to the situations when the 'good' nations do the same.

Yup if this prison was in iran alan would be going ape shyte, telling us how bad they are and their human rights record is shocking but the US get defended :p

Well I prefer to focus on worst offenders where political prisoners are raped, tortured and killed as a matter of state policy on a nation wide scale. You focus on a small island naval base where a few hundred people enjoy more luxuries than many millions in this country.

I'm willing to accept these small scale violations to combat a far greater threat. This of course is nothing new. In WW2 people were detained without trial based on nothing more than their nationalities by their thousands. But nobody dared declare FDR a war criminal. In fact he's one the most revered U.S presidents.

If an American soldier is the biggest, bad-ass soldier around you don't go pissing against his Hum-vee's wheel in plain view. That might just land you in a prison without trial. Common sense people, common sense.
True, better to blow him up, then piss on his car.

You don't though, you only appear to bring up the other offenders when moaning at people like myself.

A country that is supposedly all about freedom and democracy has no business kidnapping people, holding them without charge, without a proper trial, torturing them, etc. We expect this kind of behaviour from backward Islamic nutcases, the Chinese.

Yup but we know the US are no better regardless of what they claim.

The imprisonment of the Japanese during World War II has been criticised.

And so freedom goes, never to be recovered. The people willing to give up hard won freedom are a far greater threat and evil than a handful of terrorists.
