Article: I know things you should know: Mbeki

Former president Thabo Mbeki said on Saturday that South Africans deserved to know facts about the country's history which were not yet public knowledge.

"I have various facts at my disposal which have not as yet seen the light of day, but which are essential pieces of the jigsaw puzzle which explains the evolution of South Africa over a number of decades, to this day."

So why not tell us then? Instead of saying you know something that will helps us understand, tell us.

He's waiting for someone to pay him handsomely to keep quiet... else the beans would have already been spilled.

So I read that as: "involve me in the arms deal enquiry and I spill the beans".

As president he had access to lots of non public access information/state secrets that are not neccessary constructive for a growing democracy if made public.
He as a nosy intellectual/scholar can pick and choose which secrets/what information will fit into his conspiracy theories so that it makes him sound that much more intellectual.
How the mighty have fallen.

He is HARDLY in a position to talk about facts which we ought to know about. The skeletons in his closet are rattling real hard.

Surely there are laws preventing a former head of state from revealing state secrets?
And if not, why not?

Maybe they should have put a restraint of trade contract on him! :D

Secrecy bill ;)

Dude Mbeki is not looking for a payout, during his tenure as President of South Africa he did not have a lot of expenses everything was paid for, financially he is well set, he had three sources of income, SA, ANC and NEPAD, and he is still getting paid and provided with security as former head of state.

Mbeki has nothing to gain by being wealthy, he does not have kids of his own who would be heir to his estate in case he passes away. One thing about him though is that he is too proud, the only thing he cares about is his legacy

Most of what he is saying is that he has secrets from the past, secrets before the ANC government was in power, it might have to do with terrorists activities carried by ANC.

Why on earth would he go around saying that he knows things the average South African ought to know ............................ and then not divulge what they are??????????

I do not understand what he is actually trying to do (or say ) here?????
