Article: Important 2010 roads to be completed on time

"An efficient, reliable and dependable transportation system supported by a well maintained world class infrastructure is essential for a highly industrialised and very busy province like Gauteng," she told the legislature.

The province committed R505 billion towards the construction and upgrading of roads over the next five years.

Mokonyane said this will yield the construction and maintenance of 1 500 km of provincial roads which in turn will create job opportunities.
R505,000,000,000 for 1500 km of road.

That's R336,666,666.66 per kilometer of road.

Are they building the road out of titanium and maintaining it using a new galvanising titanium substrate ?

Well, none of the ANC's friends know how to quote on concrete road structure yet, so for now, Tar will simply have to be used.
Don't worry ... bitumen sticks to anything, even the light dust that will form on top of the concrete from the traffic vibrations.

For that price it had better be a fckin maglev track.

The new aluminium plates will have two letters, two numbers, and then GP.
So umm, thats ~50k plates. What about the other 2 mil people in GP? They can just drive without plates I guess.

No wonder our roads are full of holes.
