Article: Is chasing cyber criminals worth it?

This week's arrests of three men in connection with one of the world's largest computer-virus networks may seem like great news -- perhaps even a sign authorities are starting to win the war against cyberthieves.

Ways to stop Crime
1. Reason with criminals into changing their behaviour
2. Punish them so that they decide that it is no longer worth the risk
3. Capture and keep them from society.
4. Do nothing and hope they stop their criminal activities

Those are the options, each coming with a benefit and price. It's up to the public to choose.

People can hack without being traced, how come they “let them self’s” be caught?
Simple example: car+sit outside of house+random person’s wireless?

1. useless idea, most of the ppl doing cybercrimes are smart enough to know what their choices are. they are doing it because its easier than working and they can play WOW most of the day
2/3 go hand in hand. but, u gotta catch em first...
4. another useless idea, burying ur head in the sand is hardly a solution. They are not gonna stop without some kind of motivation.

5. Offer an amnesty of some sorts, during this period you offer those coming forward jobs in the cyber crimes division. You get companies like microsoft etc to put together some kind of sponsorship/reward programme for the division.
There is incentive for the criminals to turn sides and the better they are, the more money they will make which in turn means the more crimes they stop.
