Article: Languages Bill to 'improve access to services'

Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile says the draft South African Languages Bill is not only intended to promote all the country's official languages, but to improve access to services.

The Bill proposes that government departments use at least two languages to communicate with the public. Provinces would also be expected to choose languages that are dominant or mostly spoken to communicate with the public. This, in turn, would open up access to knowledge about services for many more people.

For the love of common sense scrap all these languages as official and lets all stick to Anglais!

You mean we actually need to waste millions drafting bills to make this happen? wtf :wtf:

Is this a reaction to the fact that there are less and less people bothering to admit that they speak Zulu or Xhosa at home?

I think that, in all official communications, that a sentence needs to be expressed with alternate words in a different language. That way nobody will ever be misunderstood.
