Toll tariffs for Gauteng's freeways could be between R0.05/km and R0.09/km cheaper for cars, minibuses and motorbikes with e-tags, according to new proposed fees released in Johannesburg on Thursday. The reduced charges would be submitted to the government for consideration, director general of the Gauteng freeway improvement project steering committee George Mahlalela told reporters in Johannesburg.

They fear for the safety of the toll gantries, and therefore target those who are unlikely to burn them down.

Only in the beginning for a start, the old lip-candy issue to keep the consumers "calm", fact is every time I go through a Tollgate the price has increased.

Even with a 9c/km discount it's only going to reduce my PTA - Midrand tolling costs by 15%.

I should imagine some time in August as the final decision and announcement will only be made at the end of July.

A decision on the Gauteng e-tolling system will only be made at the end of July, according to the Department of Transport (DOT).

We all saw this coming. Municipal elections come around, ANC says "oooh, we have heard the voices of the masses and will review the rates" to look all carey and sweet, then as soon as they win again, BAM, 5c off, suckers.

Same thing happened with the eskom increases.

Like someone said above, watch it increase monthly due to "inflation" and "operational cost increases" like every other toll gate.

Time to scout for alternate routes..

Anyway... done and dusted, got myself another job, they can go shove their highway where the sun don't shine, no need for me to go anywhere near a freeway again!

And I hope nobody pays... that way the public can give to them UP THE ASS for a change! Apparently this was done successfully in Germany.

I wonder how well a 3M privacy filter would work on a license plate?
From what I can see the angle from the cameras to a vehicle is quite steep and the 3M filters viewing angle is 30 degrees.
Tilting the license plate downwards by 10 degrees would reduce the viewing angle to 25 degrees.
