yeah budge out of the conversation and go back to points that I addressed( earlier then conclude with an ad hominen fallacy...(this is usually how it goes).

It is okay to speed and drive drunk, because that is better than government putting you in jail, letting you be raped, having the police torture you, fining you afterwards and then locking you up after you have speed and driven drunk.

You think it is okay for government to dictate what is good and bad for you and regulate your behaviour...

We are talking about speeding and driving drunk, we are not talking about the government taking away your right to vote or shooting you on the streets if you are out past curfew. I think you need to make the distinction here that driving a fraction slower than you want to is not going to affect your quality of life, but will improve the quality of life for those around you.

You can view this any way you want, but if you cannot see the simple fact that it is better for other innocent people than you are just being grossly selfish.

Okay you know what, we have gotten so far off course here and I don't know enough about politics to be debating on how governments should be formed.

It all boils down to the fact that you think it's okay to speed and drive drunk. If you seriously think this way then it really scares me to think how many other people share your sentiments that I must share the roads with. I thought I only had taxis to worry about, I was obviously mistaken.

However, we cannot immediately correlate between speed LIMITS and the fatal crashes. I feel this could be indirectly studies using data regarding South African drivers' attitudes towards speed limits.. data I cannot find and I doubt exists in conclusive form.

Broadly speaking, the relationship between the habits of people who use the road system and the design of the road system is not understood. We lack in-situ measurement of our road network. We also lack real-time monitoring of our road network. We do not fully integrate town-regional planning, transportation engineering, urban-social engineering. As result, it is no surprise that some of the road upgrades in Joburg do not meet the desired objective of reducing congestion.

Instead of developing sound theoretical and practical background, there are a lot of myths in our so-called transport science. Due to rapid changes in our SA society, we have not had enough time to understand the systemic effects of speed, because engineers, politicians and society were caught up with other changes and could not recognize the losses that go hand in hand with speed.

I have Personally seen how these guys drive like maniacs on the high way, just to stop at a Mcdonalds to get 3 Double cheese burgers, a Big mac and chips.. and SIt there to eat them...
