Article: Mandela notes start circulating

New bank notes featuring an image of former president Nelson Mandela were expected to start circulating on Tuesday.

The notes would feature Mandela on the front and pictures of the "Big Five" animals on the back.

The old bank notes would still be legal.

I though we got rid of politicians faces on our currency ages ago to go for something more neutral...

I thought we renamed our airports to be more neutral too...

We also got rid of politicians' names for airports, hospitals and the like.

Luckily, thanks to FNB, I almost never use cash and as such, don't have a single note with me. So they can make the old ones illegal for all I care.

Saw my first R10 and R100 note over the weekend;:sick:. I don't care who is or is not on it, it looks like dodgy.
 
the problem with the new notes is that they cannot be used when paying for parking at the University :( The machine only uses old notes.
