There is clearly a difference between private / residential and business property. Hence why we have different zones and different rules.

Every civilized country in the world has a government and different property zones. So either you are ok with that or you should be looking to move to a place like Somalia.

Or non-smokers who are plagued by smoke can stay home on THEIR private property and not go out, select non-smoker friends and use eco-friendly hybrid cars :p they should be able to afford it as they do not smoke :p

Feel free to lobby government for that legislation.

Like it or not, one of government's mandates is the control of public safety and property.

do you accept censorship?
do you accept BEE?

we all have things which we disagree with government, the spear painting, tenders and e-tolling being some of them. they also cracked down hard on gambling a while back, for whose benefit? it seems like the ANC's only job is to be a pain in the ass.

governments like people will abuse their power and will occasionally do something stupid, this instance being one of the things. the government does plenty of idiotic things and we criticise them for it, yet somehow this falls into some people's personal gripe and now they commend the government. if people want less freedom, congratulations

I doubt some individuals will ever grasp concepts such as liberty, freedom, rights etc. For them it's a simply matter of 'the government says' and they accept it. Rational thought, logic & reason are only applied when it suites their personal beliefs and not applied uniformly. Sad but true.
 
To be honest, If I can't take a piss in public, why can you smoke in public? It both an inconvenience to the people around us. I don't smoke and never will and I get really angry when other peoples smoke is floating around and I can smell it. Its not the fact that people smoke that makes me angry, it the smoke cloud that you form that angers me. If I light a small fire on my table next time I'm at a restaurant, I'm sure all you smokers will be peed off that I did that. Same thing expect you hold your little fire between your fingers.

The irony is that the very same people will be the first to moan about the government when it's something that affects them.

Or people realise that reality is based on community. Your right to "liberty" doesn't override someone else right to be healthy. Life is about compromise and the compromise most modern societies take on smoking is that the people daft enough to do it can do it in their homes but not public places.

Bemoaning smoking regulations as an intolerable infringement on your rights is about as convincing argument as a CEO bemoaning environmental controls from preventing him from dumping toxic waste in a river on his land.
