US lawmakers at each other's throats over the budget, immigration and other tough issues united on Tuesday to demand that Nazis should not get Social Security benefits.
By a vote of 420-0, the House of Representatives passed the No Social Security for Nazis Act, a bill that closes legal loopholes that have allowed a small number of World War II-era Nazis to collect government benefits even after many other Nazis who escaped to the United States were deported or prosecuted.

Hoo boy. America's professional politicians become more detached from reality with each passing year. At this rate they'll catch up with their European colleagues by the end of the decade.
More seriously, this is an extremely disturbing precedent. We can all agree that Nazis are nasty and unwanted. However, to make a person's political affiliations the grounds for whether they receive social security benefits or not is a disturbing precedent. As much as I execrate Nazism, this law smuggles in a principle that will contaminate everything. Nazis today. Al Qaeda tomorrow. Democrats / Republicans one day.

I agree.
If they are war criminals, then try them in a court of law and let them have their day. If they are convicted and serve time, then by the laws of the US, their debt to society is paid. Anything else would be cruel and unusual punishment, which is unconstitutional.
If they are not war criminals, then treat them the same as anybody else.
In America, everybody is free! Except people we don't like apparently.
America already flouts the constitution when it suits them though.
Seems a bit pointless and petty.
Their government has always trampled on their constitution, and there has always been some group or another they persecute. They're not unique in that of course nor even in pretending they uphold the principles of freedom.

Yep , Operation Paperclip, they were given immunity and excused the deeds of the past in exchange for their knowledge.

That is pretty bizarro though.
The US space program was basically run by Wernher von Braun, who helped develop the V2 rocket- he was a Nazi and in the SS (although he claims he had no political interest in the SS).

Yeah, my grandfather also worked in the space program, it's why my family got American citizenship even though he fought against the allied, though not by choice. Wonder if this would affect his retirement funds, but don't think so, since most of it comes from investments.

The SS was a vast organisation, roughly 1.25 million people from admin, to scientists, to medical, to concentration camps to foot soldiers, artillery, tanks etc but unfortunately it was declared a criminal organisation as a whole at the Nurenburg trials, thereby making any member a criminal by default, whether they had any part in war crimes or not.
I say unfortunate because there were many members who served bravely, with distinction. Professional, elite soldiers who fought exceptionally, and who had nothing whatsoever to do with any war crimes, yet are/were considered criminals due to their affiliation.
Am sure there where innocent people in the SS, but it's very hard to feel sympathy with an organisation that was responsible for so many atrocities. It's not like every SS member was put in jail for war crimes despite it being declared a criminal organisation?

The SS in particular were vicious and barbaric. Everyone in it must have surely known about the genocide but when life wad good for them then it was ok????

Normal military sure.......specialised secret assassin units that headed up genocide surely deserve the fate they dished out
