Am I mistaken in saying this was not always how it worked? ( not meaning pre 94. Say the last 10 years) then the students rioted and this was opened to late entries to shush them?

By early on Tuesday morning a 3km long queue had formed outside the university's entrance.

Applications for its four campuses - Auckland Park Kingsway, Auckland Park Bunting Road, Doornfontein and Soweto - were processed at the Bunting Road campus.

This was because many of the late applicants were not sure about what they wanted to study, so they felt it was unhelpful to send them to campuses which only offered specific fields of study.

Around 07:30 university staff said they would open the gates at 08:00.

In the 21t century, technology such as mobile phones, email can be useful. Do they have mobile phones and the internet in South Africa ? They did when I left. But that was 4 years ago..........................

And since its happened before, why didnt they come with a plan to deal with it now ??? Instead, thousands storm the buildings. What's easy about that ?

Whats easy about that? Be proactive, dont wait until number 99 and rely on LATE admissions.

They didn't riot for it. The old pre-merged Wits Tech used to accept students at the beginning of the year, but it was orderly and never in such large numbers. Wits Tech is now UJ.

So this was not why they burnt stuff a few years ago? Oke. ( I'm trying to find the link to what I'm thinking of.)

Just shows you how messed up our education system has become, if people stupid enough to stampede like a pile of pachyderms and lazy enough to miss registrations by months are actually meeting the requirements to get into university...
