Article: Ongoing billing crisis in Joburg: DA

Why is there an assumption that the bill is wrong? The ANC are not known for paying bills and there could easily be arrears.
 
At least they are getting a bill, Ive been living in my Sectional title house for 3 years 10 months and am still trying to get them to sent me an account for rates and taxes.

Same thing happened to a work colleague, until one day the bill arrived, with everything outstanding included

Surely they are not allowed to charge interest, that would be very wrong. Still saving the rates & taxes for the one day mass charge must be hard
 
In 2006 while visiting Jhb, my parked (hire) car was hit by a Fire Engine. The insurance paid for the repair and tried to recover the (R8000) excess from the Jhb Municipality. After 3 years they issued summons and were awarded default judgement, as nobody from Jhb Mun turned up to court. The Sheriff was unable to serve the order to seize assets since the Fire Dept depot would not let him in and the Metro Police would not assist. I heard later that the Sheriff had over 20 outstanding warrants which could not be delivered.

Luckily I've been saving up. I've now sold the property and the transfer attorney didn't blink an eye when told her about it. Apparently it happens all the time. I phoned JHB about it yesterday and after being on hold for 10 minutes while they look into it they just put the phone down.

My sister-in-law's been waiting for close to 3 years too. Been current for about a year but still waiting on the bill for the 1st 2 years they been in their new house. Beyond a crisis...
