Article: Petrol price increase

The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 41 cents a litre from next Wednesday, the energy department said on Friday.

Diesel with 0.05 percent sulphur would go up by 17.8 cents a litre wholesale, and diesel with 0.005 percent sulphur by 17.8 cents a litre.

Don't worry! It will go down 8c again next month, and then 65c up the next

I'd say it's about time big corporations are forced to pursue sustainable energy... The way things are going, it's going to get a lot worse, before it gets any better.

So you're ok with having the cost of living go through the roof in the process of this pursuit of sustainable energy?

This has been the case the past 20 years and will continue to go this route as long as there are people that can profit from selling petrol to SA consumers.

Sorta.. We definitely need alernatives, and until there is a reason to find them it's not going to happen..

Agreed... but breaking the economy in the process is not really a method that will work.

Estimates R18 per liter by end of the year. I honestly blame the US. Stopping SA from buying cheap oil from Iran makes us all suffer. Stupid war happy Americans.

R18 a litre would make life completely unaffordable. I doubt I would be able to afford to get to and from work, let alone afford the increase in grocery prices.

The increase results in it costing R32 more to fill up your tank (80L). It doesn't exactly make life unaffordable. If it goes up R300 per tank that would be noticeable.

I disagree. My car will now cost me an extra R15 a week. That is two loaves of bread a week. For people that don't earn great money that is a hit.

And aside from the cost at the pump, consumers will also be forced to pay more for goods in the stores as freight costs go up as well as companies cover their increased fuel bills.

Yes, this increase is only a bit more... And the next one is going to be a bit more, and so on and so on...

Every small bit extra takes money away from other things, and eventually even basic stuff becomes unaffordable.
I'm already spending nearly R700 on a 60l tank of petrol. That is up from the give or take R600 it was at the beginning of last year.. so yes for me it is definitely very noticeable.
