The CEO of the Eastern Cape Gambling and Betting Board is a member of the board, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has found.

"My finding is that he is a member of the board," she told reporters in Pretoria on Wednesday.

"I have only had to fix the future because the past is too far gone."

She was delivering her finding following an investigation into alleged maladministration with regard to the CEO's appointment. The board had claimed the CEO was not a board member.

Madonsela said board members had powers, and therefore ethical standards needed to be maintained.
