Article: Racist coffee campaign stopped

The University of Pretoria (UP) halted an AfriForum Youth campaign to highlight issues around affirmative action on Friday, the youth organisation said.

"Dean of Students Prof Matete Madiba told us to pack up and leave," chairman of AfriForum Youth at UP Barend Taute said.

Not the first time they've done this, but the first time it actually got shut down. Yay censorship!

"The university is disappointed that a civil rights organisation like AfriForum Youth uses Freedom Day to reduce complex issues impacting on South African society to simplistic publicity campaigns... rather than seeking real solutions for topical issues."

They are seeking real solutions, you muppets.

This is a non-story. It was stopped because the organisers had not obtained the required permission for the event.

"We reiterated that they are welcome to repeat the exercise if they applied for and were granted the necessary permission," [UP spokeswoman Nicolize Mulder ] said.

She said the organisation had held a similar campaign using cupcakes in 2007 (when they presumably had required necessary permission).

Earlier, Mulder said in a statement the university wanted to state that all South Africans with the requisite academic ability were welcome at UP.

Why is it always Afriforum at the middle mod these racial incidents?

Well I think the DAYL are less concerned about showboating and more concerned with real, constructive issues.

well, you never hear about the DA youth doing anything, the only significant thing that they did was a poster last year, other than that they are pretty dead.

I also don't think a sexually provocative poster is a 'real constructive issue'. A youth organization hardly focus on constructive issues.

Interested how things would have played out if it were SASCO wanting to protest.
Had the university objected or disallowed this, SASCO would no doubt have embarked on the usual campaign of destruction & defiance.

It's funny how selling coffee at different prices to willing buyers is considered racism. But forcing companies to employ people based on race is not racism. :wtf:
