Article: Restricting alcohol advertising

The rights of South Africans must come first when debating whether to limit the sale and advertising of alcohol, the Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini said on Monday.

Providing feedback on progress made in the government's social protection cluster, including new legislation on the cards, Dlamini said the draft Bill on restricting alcohol advertising and marketing would be submitted to Cabinet before the end of this year.

A good start would be to band the consumption of alcohol at any government function, rally or gathering.

Start with yourselves you fat tw@ts.

Look on the bright side , prices could drop as there is no need to budget for marketing anymore.

Should just limit the amount of alcohol a drink may contain.
But then I guess that would remove the reason some people drink in the 1st place - to get drunk.

Alcohol is not permitted at any government function or rally...
With the podium awash in cake and catharsis, deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe raised his glass and proposed a toast. “The leaders will now enjoy the champagne, and of course they do so on your behalf through their lips.” Later, the leadership drove off in luxury cars on behalf of those who had no transport and stayed in expensive hotels on behalf of those who lived in shacks.

The BEST advertising campaigns ever came from alcohol commercials. Imagine no "give that man 'n Bells" or "met eish ja" or "what you doin' Jim?" or Savannah ads, life would suck.

This man speaks the truth.

How would this affect sponsorships though? Will alcohol companies not be able to sponsor sports teams anymore like the cigarette manufactures?

Or any state company function. Unlike most of us, they have to assemble at a resturaunt to drink, where at our company we have a bar! :D

Doesn't sound like our right to freedom is being considered at all.

Unless there is no alcohol content people who want to get drunk will simply drink more. Or we'll simply create an excellent black market opportunity. Hopefully the gangs running it will set up their base of operations near where these government ministers live, then they can accidentally get shot in the ensuing market share negotiations.
