Article: SA needs competitive politics

South Africa's democratic and constitutional health relies on a more competitive political sphere, former Democratic Alliance leader Tony Leon said.

"When that happens, as it surely will pretty soon, then our fine constitutional prospectus will start to live and breathe again and be rescued from the torpor of one-party domination," he said in a speech prepared for delivery in Cape Town on Thursday.

Not just South Africa. Unfortunately politics seems to attract exactly the sort of people you don't really want running a country, so invariably it ends up being a matter of deciding who is the least evil.

No, it needs a better educated and more informed electorate, as a starting point at least.
Why, that has hardly been of any real benefit in any other country? Campaigns aren't even run on real issues or a vision of the future.
