Article: SA was happier under Mbeki: Lekota

Congress of the People leader Mosiuoa Lekota criticised President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday, saying the country was ruing the day former president Thabo Mbeki was forced out of office.

"South Africa today is less happy than when President Mbeki was driven out of office," he said in the debate on Zuma's state-of-the-nation address last week.

Agreed..
But in general we were a happier nation under Mbeki.... We didn't have an absolute blithering idiot for a president, we just had a misguided and absent president.

A terrible error of judgement on Mbeki's part, yes,
but at least we had a chance to change his mind and I believe he had integrity (he thought he was doing the right thing making issues like malnutrition fundamental to his response to the issue of HIV).

With the corrupt and incompetent Zuma we've no hope in hell.

Yip those grand days of the arms deal under Madiba with Schabir Shaik, Tony Yengeni and co doing their thing. When Mac was a cabinet member not a mere spokesman....

Implements policies that results in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of sick vulnerable South Africans, signs off on a corrupt arms deals worth billions that serves no purpose while millions suffer in abject poverty and he was just a "misguided" man with "integrity" :erm:

The consequences of Mbeki's AIDS policies are unforgivable. But there is no argueing that the economy was in a much heathier state back then. As stubborn and out of touch as Mbeki was, at least he had a firm opinion on where he wanted to go, and was not afraid to stake out a clear course. Contrast this with Zuma who is merely tring to appease various different factions to keep himself in power.

I think people like to forget how atrocious Mbeki's actions were during his tenure as president.
 
Well, like one of my fb friends said a while ago: the fact that we miss Mbeki merely show just how much Zuma sucks.

It's the media. They've whipped people into frenzy over Zuma to the point that merely mentioning his name results in eyes glazing over, salivating, blood pressure rising through the roof that anyone seems competent in comparison. The same media that that created the myth of Mbeki as this highly intellectual statesman that many of them voted for which they now seem to falling back on.
