Article: SARS getting new powers to gather info about you

The SA Revenue Service (Sars) has acquired new powers to gather intelligence on taxpayers and collect revenue, it was reported on Tuesday.

People and companies, such as lawyers, estate agents and medical aid funds, now had a duty to automatically submit information about their clients to Sars, The Times reported.
 
Well, that R20Bn misspent by the provinces isn't going to repay itself.
 
So what happens to people that lie to
Lawyers: Saying they get paid less than they actually do for better prices
Estate Agents: Adding to the total to be able to get better service

Is this new powers two way, so will the correct the numbers or just ask you to clarify?

What happens if you are a foreigner

Why not rather put as much effort into finding out where and how and by whom the collected tax revenue is being [-]spent[/-] WASTED !

I suppose SARS have never heard of the Boston Tea Party -- or inKhosi Bambatha

Anybody see Mirror Mirror with Julia Roberts where her little minion goes into town to tax the people to death so she could have a party at the palace? I think the movie was a reflection on South Africa.
 
Sars is just doing their job and they do it well, you need to worry about the people giving them so much power and to what end.
 
The only thing that this government can do efficiently is collect tax.

I'm pretty sure that companies and banks have been required to report transactions over x-amount for quite a while now.
