Article: School says sorry for racial segregation

I wasn't following the story - why did they split the classes up?
Was it so they could put the kids in classes with teachers fluent in the language the majority of kids in class were speaking?
Or just because of South Africa?

I once had to set up a race filter for a call center's call lists. We'd receive the details from the banks and I was asked to do a filter by surname and address on all African contacts. Being 2001 I was a bit hesitant at doing this. Then the one black consultant actually explained to me that their own numbers had found that handing those leads over to one of a few Middle-aged African Ladies in the center practically tripled the chances of a sale.

Having a White, or even English speaking salesperson phone that lead was bound to be a waste of time. Plus the sales took longer. But the Stokvel - a group of constantly gossiping black ladies in the center - would increase the odds of a sale, as well as speed it up.

Nothing illegal about targeted marketing. Being marketed to is after all not a human right (More like a human plight!).

Sad to hear that they apologised.

Its a living - and those guys were good. Had one guy who'd only work half days. He'd come in, handle his quota sales for the day, then leave to go play golf for the rest of the day. He cleared an average of R 40 000 a month in commission. i dislike golf - but I was still jealous.

Ag as if an apology means anything. I would have removed my children from the school faster than anything.

They will still divide them by race now, which kinda defeats the purpose of a rainbow nation.
Should have gone for a randomized rainbow nation where the rainbow can be any combination of color with extremes included without being pseudo random and "rigged" for political results.

There is a small group of white kids in Grade R - 20% of the total number of kids. They thought that keeping them together was a good thing.

The school was just trying to satisfy the racist parents , anyone can claim to be non racist but put their child alone in a class filled with kids from other races and see how quickly they complain.

We are in africa and we are the minority, trying to sheild your kids from mingling with other races is never going to work.

I just want to know whos parents were laying all the complaints? , was it the colorfull kids in all the other classes complaining because they want to be in class with the white kids?.

Perhaps they separated them based on grades.
And why the hell are black parents unhappy if their children are among other black kids.

I think the black parents complained. If the school was stupid enough to separate kids, chances are they weren't treating the classes the same either...

The same thing also happened at this school group, and it was because of language issues. The learners could not speak English or Afrikaans. What to do.

Thought that's why they go to school... I went to an English school not knowing how to speak a word of English.

Grouping them is a terrible idea, especially for friendships.

My primary school? Rivonia. Mostly white kids, horrible horrible experience. High school? Wendywood. It lacked facilities, door handles or the ability to hold onto any half decent teacher that it ever had, but because of the racial diversity it was such a better experience.

I ended up growing with kids from townships AND suburbs. The former knowing a fair deal of suffering and being far more "Real" for it, teaching me, a white guy, a bucketload of culture and respecting me a lot more than any "white peers" ever had.

Though ultimately we need to move to a point where race isn't an issue /at all/. Where there is no BEE or race related appointments, where merit or character are the only way we bring in people. But hell, with this Eskom stuff going on? I doubt the country has enough of a future to see that "dream" happen.

Tl;dr: Derp.
