Article: Selebi appeal fails

Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass begin, do not collect R200 bribes.

I hope they sent him directly to jail. He can appeal from there, wasting our time now.

He can't appeal. This WAS his appeal. Finish and klaar.

About time he has wasted enough resources and money - send regards to BABA.

He took R160k in bribes - now has to repay R14m in legal fees.

Pappa wag vir jou!

Woohoo....

Go to jail you corrupt little tosser... I hope you have multiple pappa's in jail.

On the flip side I find this really unacceptable that he goes to jail yet Glen Agliotti, Nassif, Mikey Shultz and the rest of those barbarians get off scott free.

more like collect serious illness and go straight to the golf course

The doctors will find something wrong with him.... perhaps unusally high stress levels together with other complications....

he probably has a few months to live...........

......in prison and he will walk free

Can't have crooks in jail with high blood pressure. Why that's just barbaric!

OMFG

He will obviously be kept in solitary, because there will be too many convicts waiting for the arrival of the former commissioner of police under whose watch they ended up in jail.

On a lighter note, this appeal gives new meaning to Selebi's expression 'finish and klaar' :)

Selebi ‘collapses’

Charl du Plessis

An ambulance has just arrived at former police commissioner Jackie Selebi’s house amid reports that he has collapsed following the news that his appeal of his 15-year prison sentence had failed in the Supreme Court of Appeal.

The ambulance is parked in Selebi’s driveway with a stretcher at the ready.Selebi’s lawyer, Wynanda Coetzee, said his friends and family were “very worried” about him and were “trying to sort out his medical condition first”.

Coetzee was addressed journalists outside Selebi’s Pretoria home, where he had learnt that the appeal against his 15-year prison sentence had failed.

She would not confirm whether he had collapsed, but said his son, wife and nephew were with him.

Help, I'm confused -

Johannesburg - Former top cop Jackie Selebi will have to pay out of his own pocket for the appeal against his corruption conviction, The Star newspaper reported on Friday.

"After considering a spectrum of all relevant factors, the State took a decision not to pay for legal costs for Mr Selebi's appeal process," justice spokesperson Tlali Tlali told the paper.

Selebi confirmed that the State had declined his application for funding the appeals process.

"I will have to see what I can do. I've not considered [how I will pay for the appeal]," said Selebi.

Going ahead

But he insisted that he was going ahead with the appeal. "I'm going to continue," said Selebi.

He was found guilty of corruption in the South Gauteng High Court in July and sentenced to 15 years in jail. He won leave to appeal his conviction in August.

The State did foot the bill for his defence during the trial, which cost a total of R17.4m.

According to this, the State was not going to pay - so how did Selebi find around 75 million ?
