I heard on the radio that the target was R100 million but haven't seen it mentioned in any printed reports.

The early years, after the ANC was unbanned, was when armed robberies and cash heists really took off and I remember a number of press reports describing robberies where weapons recovered were registered to the ANC who refused to cooperate with the police - a good indication that the Party was involved.

I wonder if this bunch is/was an ANC gang that got out of control and and someone in the Party was responsible for the tip-off.

It's been obvious for a long time that the ANC regards crime as being ok so long as the perpetrators follow the (Luthuli) house rules.
