Article: Smart Schools paperless education project launch

Dignitaries filed into a large marquee at a school in Tembisa, Johannesburg, early on Wednesday morning for the launch of the Smart Schools paperless education project in Gauteng.

Boitumelong Secondary School was one of seven Gauteng township schools which would undergo "the big switch on".
 
Hold on to those tablets, the second hand market is going to sky rocket.
 
Less textbooks deliveries for Angie to worry about.
 
I would stick to the chalkboard, they don't need electricity... Plus they are more difficult to steal or "lose"
 
I really hope they go a sort of kindle route and note the latest shiny thing from Samsung etc. The aim should be durability, battery life and the ability to replace books and along with that making sure they are not something that has a massive value in terms of being stolen.

I realise the value of videos for education, but I am sure there is a middle ground to not worry about mega dense pixels etc, but rather on the best lifecycle taking all the potential issues in to account.
 
How long will these tablets last? I know textbooks should last around 5 years. Also we were made to take textbooks home and cover them in plastic etc. So I really wonder about these tablets.
