Article: Super-tax on mining profits reckless: DA

You know if I have a choice between South Africa and Eastern Europe, which are probably on the same level of development then I wouldn't think twice but take my money to EEU.

Fantastic! Use up their resources for cheap and push up the price of ours :D

You see resources aren't as static as you make them out to be :D, if SA's price is to high then recycling might be cheaper in the future!

Perhaps because its not a limited natural resource that belongs to the country.

I think the DA are being hysterical on this, we are doing nothing thats not being done in many other countries including Australia, and it sure as hell beats nationalization.

Has there been a tax hike you haven't approved of?

The morality behind taxation is legalized plunder and a totally unjustifiable process of you're guilty until proven innocent. However not everyone sees this contradiction.

Noo.. its legalized murder! ... no... actually its legalized murder of little babies!

Have you considered a job at RIAA or RISA? They do the same as you.

well whatever. Just never seen ghoti oppose any tax hike.

Although maybe the new toll system in Gauteng or the tolls going up in the cape met with his disapproval.

Gentlemen gentlemen!

When given a choice to either nationalize or super tax I suspect taxation would be preferable. Though I agree entirely it's not an ideal situation given the shrinking margins on mining profits ( note i'm not saying profits are lower, the profits are higher due to higher exchange rates, production has shown a steady decline for years ) some remuneration is better than none.

The reason they would rather push for taxing rather than tackling corruption is merely a numbers game. It's easier to offset the ludicrous spending of state organizations by adding a 10% extra on the + column of the balance sheet, rather than lowering the - column values by tackling the black holes of fraud and corruption. It's also a softer target

Well let the people plunder crappy 3rd world countries resources first. What is not used now will just go up in price in the future (especially with declining stock levels). :D

If they can pull it out in Australia for a profit they can do the same here, if they cant do the same here then they need to relook at their models.

In the mean time our unemployed millions can eat cake.

So a foreign investor has 1 billion dollars to throw into a new venture. Does he choose country A where he will make 10 billion dollars, or does he choose country B where he will make 20 billion?

Oh right, he doesnt invest in south africa.

Sadly that is what will happen, some people cannot grasp it is all about profit and the mining sector contributes more than it's fair share to the country.

We know the extra tax is only to line pockets and not help the country, mines create employment and education. Instead of taxing them more, perhaps ensure the workers are paid more or more infrastructure is build for the communities but ya this is the anc so more tax is about right.

I am amazed people support are supporting the ANC trying to make more money.

The Australian horse racing administration?

Anyways, how is taxation not legalized plunder! I'm curious convince me here.

The same way copyright infringement is not really piracy...

Words have meanings (hence the reason for a dictionary), and if you could find one respectable dictionary that defines tax as legalized plunder I will change my opinion. However, you wont, because you changed the definition of the words to suite your point. The more loaded the weasel words you use are, the more dire you can make the situation sound.

It must have been a bad point. Either way

Plunder: The violent and dishonest acquisition of property.

How is a tax not a form of plunder?

Ill wait for you to understand the point I was making (its pretty clear) before we continue this discussion. Let me know when you have worked it out. Dont forget you have three life lines left. Feel free to phone a friend.

Well, with mining the investor is pretty limited in which country he chooses. Does he choose SA which is full of mineral resources but demands higher tax or country B which has meager resources but no tax?

I say tax em as much as we can!

As per my previous post on this subject, this is very different to what Australia are introducing, for the same reasons previously stated...

I dunno what the actual details of the SA plan is tbh. All I heard on SAFM is that they are calling all investors, miners, etc together to come up with a working plan. I just approve of the way they are doing things in Australia and Botswana.

This post is pretty meaningless and worthless without a link to your previous post...
(I did a quick search but since you know what post you're talking about and I don't, would be easier if you just point to it)
