Article: We are taking back the power: Ramphele

Newly formed political party Agang will not be bullied by those in power, leader Mamphela Ramphele said on Saturday.

"We are being treated like school boys on a school ground with bullies... The bullies are telling us to wait and we are saying no," she said at the party's petition launch in Pimville, Soweto.

"...You (government) have dislodged a rock called the citizens and you will be crushed, " she said.

"The people will govern this country as it has been envisaged."

Ramphele said people had been patient and had waited far too long for education, employment and basic services.

"After 19 years of waiting, it's over."

She called for an end to abuse, corruption and unaccountability in government.

"We deserve better, we deserve an economy that creates jobs, creates a good health care system... that we can be proud of," said Ramphele.

After the address, members of the nine-week old party, including Ramphele went out into Soweto to collect signatures from the public for their petition.

"The more people we sign up, the stronger we'll be. The more citizens we get to sign, those in power will be unable to ignore us," she said.

Welcome aboard! :D

She makes all the right noises I hope she gets enough support to at least scare the ANC into being more efficient.

Have watched some interviews with this lady, and I like most of her views and especially her optimism that things can be fixed. Naive maybe, but I think her heart is in the right place.

Knowing the gangsterism in the cANCer I hope she has decent body guards.

You know what she say is going to tick someone off and them thinking their gray might run out could end in a terrible car accident or something.

I hope she does as she professes because we do need honest governing of this corrupt country.

She's to clever, the average populous will not listen to this coconut. She should sleep with one eye open though.

Good luck to her, taking back the ANC's soul is going to be impossible.
