Article: We do employ white people: Woolworths

Amid calls for a boycott of retailer Woolworths, it responded on Sunday with a prominent advertisement in Sunday newspapers, defending its employment policy.

Woolworths did employ white people, contrary to media reports stating otherwise, its said in the advertisement, published in the City Press, Rapport and Sunday Times newspapers.
 
"Woolworths does employ white people. We employ women and men of all races -- white, black, coloured, Indian, as well as people with disabilities, and we will continue to do so."

Why the focus on only Woolies? This has become a standard practice (rightly or wrongfully)... Someone had a bad shopping day!
 
The problem was how they worded those job advertisements. The person who did that should be fired.
They could have phrased that in a much better way.
 
All big companies have the same policies enforced by anc.

What the ad should have read was 'AA/BBBEEEE preferred' which really means, to all but the most ignorant, not a chance for you whiteys....
 
What happened to the boycott of ABSA, still going? And is this going to be extended to Pick n pay, Checkers and Spar since they also implement EE?
 
the biggest shock must come to the white people who still work there - they must be wondering what happened :p

news in this country is a bigger pile of crap than the politics

That is the crux of this whole matter. That person is an idiot. And their whole PR department. They should have reacted faster with clearer meaning, not wait 4 or 5 days and then post a newspaper add.
 
BEE states that where two candidates are equally qualified, the previously disqualified should be appointed.

By placing an advert which blocks applications on a racial basis, the company is not necessarily viewing all possible candidates. This means that they are not necessarily choosing the best candidate.

As a shareholder this would concern me.

That's how EE works.

You are talking about something completely different.

They need to make up a quota and that's why these posts are being advertised to black candidates.

AND as mentioned a million times before, IF they intend to fill the post with a BEE candidate you might not want to waste your time with it. What is the point of applying if they can save you the time and energy.

Also you wont need to be terribly skilled for these jobs, so I wouldn't worry about getting the best candidate.
 
How do whites boycott Woolworths?
