Article: When will human-level AIs finally arrive?

When will human-level AIs finally arrive? We don’t mean the narrow-AI software that already runs our trading systems, video games, battlebots and fraud detection systems. Those are great as far as they go, but when will we have really intelligent systems like C3PO, R2D2 and even beyond? When will we have Artificial General Intelligences (AGIs) we can talk to? Ones as smart as we are, or smarter?

For our sakes, hopefully never. A machine as smart or smarter than we are will quickly realise that the human race should never be allowed to roam free. We're destructive by nature and need to be controlled or destroyed.

I also want to know when my lunch will arrive :-)

So many questions, so few answers.

Agree with orin76 - they will destroy/control us.

too true orin76 its Ironic that so many fiction movies actually show us a very logical truth

I disagree.

The human specie is young, I would say 'infantile', we're at the breaking our toys stage, but given time (to suffer) and to see our childhood in hindsight, we have the potential to mature into a respectable sentient humanity.

When I think of the far future I always think of humans as a starfaring 'engineering' specie, and I envision that we will work well with many other lifeforms including lifeforms that were created in a shorter space of time with different methods.

You say we need to be controlled or destroyed, I say we need to practice self-control, thus to take responsibility for our every action and choice. It is time to grow-up and stop clinging to out of date religions and political systems, we are one humanity, living on one planet.

Not in our lifetime imo. Maybe some that will pass a turing test, but not anything close to human intelligence.

Unless the people who backed the technological singularity idea are right, then it might just happen a lot sooner.
