Article: Zuma did it for the public

President Jacob Zuma decided he owed it to the public to re-open the investigation into the arms deal, his spokesman said on Friday. "What he [Zuma] has concluded, is there is a need for closure in the public interest. This matter needs to be dealt with and exposed of properly," presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj told SABC radio.

The only person Zuma is doing this for is himself otherwise this would have happened ages ago. When the terms of reference and person appointed to chair this inquiry are announced, I hope this doesn't become a farce.

BS BS BS. I call BS. He is trying to get rid of any hold that Kiddie Amin has over him. Remember that Malema threatened to use the arms deal.

So this will play out within restricted parameters and then Terry Crawford-Browne (I think that's the guy's name) will be taking them back to court to get it done properly.

If he is so keen on doing it for the public, then let the public decide on the TOR

It will be a surprise for the public if this Arms Deal gets investigated and heads roll. We suspect that the verdict will be that nothing is wrong with the Arms Deal and we must carry on with our lives.
Should the result be that the Arms Deal was all above board or that certain people went about things wrong and get a slap on the wrist, what will happen after that?

I suspect, if heads are going to roll, it will most probably be those that backed Mbeki.

Very clever plan by zuma,

Malema threatens to use the arms deal if they try and question "his tendancies". Zuma re-opens investigation into arms deal. Big mouth starts blabbing but no-one inolved (including Zuma) can answer any questions as "it is under investigation". two years down the line everything gets swept under the carpet again.

IMO if opening the arms deal investigation does no more than get Malema kicked out of politics I will be extremely happy!!

So does mean he really thinks he is not guilty, if so then Zuma is even more dumb than what I thought,
on the other end of the scale if he knows he is guilty then at least he has few brain cells in that head of his,

either way the south African public is screwed.

“It is my opinion that there are two reasons for Zuma’s decision. Number one is that Julius Malema has threatened he will expose arms deal skeletons if the ANC continues with his disciplinary hearing. Now Zuma can neutralise the threat by controlling the process.”

The second reason could be the Constitutional Court challenge, in which Terry Crawford-Browne wanted to force the president to appoint a commission of inquiry.

Crawford-Browne’s legal advisor, Paul Hoffman, said they believed the announcement was made to obstruct this case.

“Government had to hand in their legal documents (on Thursday) in which they opposed our claims. I believe they realised their argument was not watertight so they issued a statement with no particulars.”

I believe he was forced to do it. Definately not because he was doing it for the public.
