If someone goes to the effort of registering to reply to a question you have, you might do them the solid, of replying with something other than a monosyllabic grunt.

Could someone learn and progress to a penetration tester by being employed on a support level for a company like Symantec, Eset or Sophos?

I believe so. One of the juniors at the company I work for started off as IT support and progressed to becoming a pentester for the same company. He does not have OSCP but he does have MCITP and Comptia Security+ but he wants to do OSCP soon though.
