Ask a Penetration Tester Anything

I have done OSCP and passed the exam (brutal but fun). I highly recommend anyone interested in getting into penetration testing to do it. Experience needed for it? nothing but you will need to research a lot and remember enumerate and then enumerate some more.

Do you know the guys at SACS?
I have done a few courses with them.
 
Wanted to do the security analyst cert from the council. Noo I can't I must first write the script kiddie CEH which is really basic knowledge.
Also the course is around R18000 to get to the qualification that would benefit me. What ever happend to learning from the web, tinkering, reading and reversing? I cant do the cert without prooving prior security studies.

I notice there are a few questions about OSCP, I don't want to completely hijack infosec's thread here, but if you have questions about OSCP or any Offensive Security courses, I'd be more than happy to answer them.

What else do you think is a must have to enter the field? Also what timeframe do you recommend for OSCP?

Well experience always helps, but with pentesting what really counts is your skills, because once you get an interview, you will be given a practical test by just about any company hiring pentesters and it's that test that determines if you get hired or not.
Stuff like certifications and good references will get you an interview when looking for a job, but ultimately you will have to prove your skills before anybody is going to hire you.

The time frame for OSCP really depends much much time you can spend studying everyday and how much you already know, if you can commit full time and already know some basics, you can do it in a month or two. If not then it's best to maybe start with 60 days lab access, you can always get more if that isn't enough.
 
Just clueless though. I'll be happy to hack my neighbours wifi at this point then report him to the authorities for running an underground pedo site and snort morphine for my pain

Just learn linux/networking/scripting. Not as glamours as series/movies.
