Ask Afrihost CEO Gian Visser anything

Do you have a contingency plan if a DDoS attack targets your DNS hosting infrastructure, similar to what happened to GoDaddy a few years ago?

FTTH, in places where no one really cares. Please can you pull some strings to bring it to areas that actually want them ? Every, damm time "Sorry sir, you need 250 signatures in your area for us to lay down fibre cables". I'm not a salesman, they must get their own sh*t together. Anyways /rant-over, i have all my domains registered with you guys, love the work, keep it up :)

Will afrihost mobile packages be discounted soon because most other operators like Telkom are cheaper.
For example mobile ten package is R497
Then you have to pay R99 for afrihost + double data so its R596 The same double data package is R329 at Telkom

It is said that innovators do not fear failure, they actually aim to fail often as this allows them to improve and beat their competitors. What are some of Afrihost's biggest failures that allowed you to come back stronger?

Following the uproar last year with the 'problems' Afrihost was experiencing, what was the real-world effect on your subscriber base in terms of numbers? Did you feel it? And how has the uptake been since introducing your new network infrastructure (Afrigreen/blue), have the customers returned and is the growth on the new network in line with your expectations? Be honest.

Why don't you consider buying company as eg.Amobia Communications and roll out WiFi service for the thousands clients who refuse to be "serviced" by incompetent Telkom?
Regards,Trenk,Kensington

Does Afrihost have any plans in future to build it's own fibre network or focus exclusively on offering packages on existing networks?

Where do you see Afrihost in 5 years time? How do you predict Afrihost's future will impact the lives of South Africans, when considering things on the global scale?

I recently read a blog post on what it means to be CEO of a company and the responsibilities that come with such a role. What are the top 3 aspects of being a CEO do you enjoy and top 3 aspects you wish you didn't have to deal with ?

Afrihost has received some bad press in the past due to network issues. What is your strategy to overcome this negative association and beat out the competition in the long run?

Many successful people argue that the best approach in business is to focus on a single product or service and be exceptional at that. Bearing in mind that Afrihost has a very wide range of service offerings, would you agree with the above rationale or do you have a different perspective?

What are the timelines for your FTTH products on other networks, and what other networks are you negotiating with?

Will Afrihost start opening offices in Cape Town since you have grown as an company to offer opportunities to new comers to the IT Industry ?

Good day sir,

What are your thoughts on free wi-fi projects like project Isizwe? It's not really a secret that our mobile ISP's are ripping off the whole country and the less fortunate are being hit the hardest.

It's a "you need money to make money" scenario. Free wifi opens new possibilities and will most definitely become a thorn in the side of any mobile operator providing data services.

Also, keep up the innovating stuff like Afriman posting replies. It's what gives you the competitive edge and sets a benchmark for the other ISP's.

How do you motivate the people directly in contact with you?

Hi Gian, how long is your contract with EchoSP as your new network provider?

Will you change your support to hours to meet the demand for your clients ?

Have you ever been kept awake at night thinking to yourself: "Will the Afrihost DSL discussion thread ever be quiet?"?

Not a personal attack against you or the company , please see it more like a constructive criticism. Do you have a any idea of how out of sync your departments are? (in the hosting part of your business) For example - when asking one department about whether there are any firewall rules blocking traffic to my hosted server. One answer guarantees (and confirm in e-mail) me there are no firewalls whilst another says there definitely are! It look at days to resolve a firewall related issue wasting our resources.

It seems Afrihost is trying to diversify its product offerings (even moving into the cellular network arena to some extent). What other diversifying options will we see from you in the future?
