Hey guys,

My son got Assassin's Creed Unity for Christmas. Sadly it was subsequently found that it required ridiculous recommended graphics specs to run and his computer specs are not near sufficient.

Not sure I'm keen to pay R3500 just for a graphics card to play one game. He currently has a Radeon HD4600 graphics card. Game won't run as it needs Direct X 11, which isn't available with that card.

I understand the recommended spec will allow the game to be run at full settings and FPS but any ideas what the ABSOLUTE minimum spec card is that will allow the game to at least be playable?

Or where can I get a second hand card, that would hopefully be more usable?

Thanks.

The R7 260X for R1999 will run the game properly at 1080p with Medium-High settings with FXAA turned on. Make sure the game is updated to the latest patch as it made a major improvement on the game.

That is a pretty old graphics card, are you sure that it is only the graphics that is outdated? There is no point to buy a new graphics card if the rest of the system is not up to par. Would you list its specs?

Most new games will require more graphics / procession power as the new play station and Xbox generation has kicked in, allowing console game makers to create better graphics that are ported to pc.

Cards you could check out would be R9 series on http://www.wootware.co.za.

The problem why one cannot tell the absolute minimum of ac unity is that the coding is not up to par (a lot of bugs), resulting in some machines running it perfectly even if they aren't supposed to, while other extremely good computers can't run it at all.

Good luck.

Thanks guys. Here is the processor and RAM.

Your CPU is unfortunately also outdated and 4gb of RAM is bare minimum to play most modern games. Depending on how good your PSU is, I would suggest looking for a newer Core i5 PC because that would be all that's about salvageable from you setup bar the HDD. If you can get an i5 upgrade kit for R3000 with RAM then you got a good system that will handle all the new games.

Or just buy a console and never have to deal with this kind of crap again.

Yeah, I'm sure you're having fun playing all your PS4 games on a PS2...

He's got a valid point though, fork out the 6 grand he was going to pay on fixing the pc to bring it up to spec on a new console and for the next 5 years have peace of mind that a game will work every time.

Until newer hardware comes out. Same here, the game won't work because of outdated hardware.

:wtf:

I'm so enjoying AC: Unity on my PS4. Bought it just popped it into the console and started playing.

:D No issues!
Perfectly simple. You can't play new games on outdated consoles either. If you buy a new computer you can play it too.

But I've got a new console in anycase so I can play new games. Why are you harping on older consoles like PS2?

Did you not read the thread?

OP is trying to play a game on an old computer. Someone made the retarded comment that you would never have this problem if you buy a TV game system. I pointed out the very obvious fact that yes you will, eventually you will need a new console, just like he needs a new PC now. It's silly to suggest a console never gets outdated.

Not sure you know how consoles work? You buy a ps4 now and in 5 to 7 years time you buy the ps5 knowing in that time you will never have to worry about pc specs ever again as it will work.

It works the same with a PC except you might need to buy one more often. Although in these days of graphics stagnation, if you had a pc that could run Crysis properly in 2006, it would still play pretty much everything today.

This is correct. I have two PC's, one of which is at least 5 years old, i.e. without an upgrade. Still plays all the latest games. The time when you had to upgrade constantly has passed, ironically because of all the console ports.

+1, my last major upgrade was a graphics card 3 years ago.

The op is running a core i5 which I'm sure isn't that old right? So that makes Polish's statement more true than ever.
