Assassin's Creed Unity - Graphics

Let's start a slow clap for the random pc vs console debate.

OP, your pc will most likely be bottlenecked by the ram and CPU regardless of the card you get.
The game will however run with an updated GPU, albeit not as good as it could run.

Tsek! Don't come here with your geek talk!

Get a R9 270x here: http://www.wootware.co.za/powercolo...dr5-pci-express-3-0-256bit-graphics-card.html

plus get an additional 4GB RAM

The card will last quite a few years before needing to be replaced and while the CPU isn't the latest and greatest it's still fine for now

Or just buy a console and never have to deal with this kind of crap again.

I personally don't like spending R1000 on a AAA title when it is released and I enjoy gaming at 120FPS on my 120Hz screen unlike your peasant console that can't even manage 60FPS at full HD

Yeah true that! R899 for a new release? Are you kidding me? The extra money you put into a gaming rig you'd probably easily save in the cheaper price of games, if you are a serious gamer.

Or 30 FPS at 720p.

May GabeN forgive them, for they know not what they do.

And the added benefit of Steam sales...

Thanks all. A couple of grand for an upgrade to play games just never sounds appealing to a parent... At the end of the day I'd prefer activities off the computer.

We have a console, an "old" XBOX 360. I'll need to weigh up the options. Poor kid got the game and can't play it.

Just realised I'll need to check motherboard connections too with these new fancy graphics cards. I'm seeing PCIE 3.0 mentioned.

Your CPU is unfortunately also outdated and 4gb of RAM is bare minimum to play most modern games. Depending on how good your PSU is, I would suggest looking for a newer Core i5 PC because that would be all that's about salvageable from you setup bar the HDD. If you can get an i5 upgrade kit for R3000 with RAM then you got a good system that will handle all the new games.

There's no reason to upgrade cpu. Dont make him waste money.

PCIe 3.0 gfx cards work on PIEe 1.0 boards. So don't worry.

One thing the others mentioned is that you may want to get another 4GBs RAM, but not 100% necessary.

AC Unity is CPU heavy. I would like to see how the first Gen i5 holds up to AC Unity when the 8 core CPU in the PS4 has already peaked out.

I've got an Xbox One and a gaming PC. You can't just pop games into modern day consoles expecting them to play without needing to be updated. Unity has already received 10gbs of updates on PS4. On the flip side I've paid not more than R350-R599 each for Forza 5, AC Unity, Sunset Overdrive and COD:AW. Microsoft has aggressive pricing on the local Live marketplace.

The CPU in the PS4/XBONE are far weaker, with less IPC than Piledriver CPUs. Never mind i5s.

How old is your kid? AC Unity has a PEGI 18 restriction.
