There is now official development of a VOIP client, the hole reason Skype never made a full client for blackberries is until very recently it was impossible to make a VOIP call from a blackberry as blackberries never had dual band network hardware, this made a BB more of a walkie talkie than a voip capable device as it could not send and receive data on the same data stream.

If i remember correctly a select few of the slightly older 3g enabled handset are capable of voip, the bold 9700 should as well as the curve 9300, pearl 9100/9105 as well as the torch.

Please let us know what speeds you get with it coz I might consider it if the speed is greater than 100 kbps

Just go with vodacom, that way you wont have 7 days downtime. LOL
I just downloaded a 6mb file, which finished thanks to OS6's now file limit. Peak was 135k, min was 105k.
 
CranialBlaze - do you know where we can find proper limitations from the SP's where they mention you cannot download over a certain limit?

I found it on the vodacom website @ some point, but cant find it now and i need to leave. The limitations have changed though and it depends on what OS your using.

OS5 - 8mb email, 3mb for content and 5mb for attachments, limitation does nto carry over so a 1mb email cannot have a 7mb attachment and such.
2.9mb download limit outside email excluding appworld, IE the browser, any file exceeding that size will generate an error message.

OS6 - Now there is no official word on this, but there are supposed to be no limits at all, i have tested the download limit by downloading a 6mb file, will find a larger file later. Cannot say if the limits on email still stand or not.

Either OS, any streaming such as youtube will be billed outside of your data bundle, setting your APN on your handset to internet will nullify the BIS service for any app not forced to use BIS, IE you will pay. Certain apps do not work with BIS and for those you will also pay.

I finally got my BB 9300 from Cell C last week on the BB All week 100 including BIS.

I have to say I love this phone! The Cell C network actually not that bad either (touch wood).

Just a quick question. I want to download some apps, I've already downloaded the What's App apllication, it states that it uses BIS?

Can anyone confirm whether it does use BIS?

I can confirm it. A friend also says she's not paying on her prepaid nokia.
 
Make sure your apn is set to blackbery.net. That will ensure you use BIS for all hope on device surfing etc
 
Setting the apn to blackberry.net is as useful as standing on your head. Both will have an identical effect on your internet usage. The only apn setting that will affect your charges is internet and that will gaurantee you get charged.

Blank and blackberry.net are exactly the same thing, your data is controlled by your service books. Simple test, youtube uses internet and not BIS, set your anp to blackberry.net if a movie buffers and starts playing your paying for and you will see for yourself that you have just wasted 10 seconds making a pointless change to your settings.
