ASUS AiMesh Quality Issues when Streaming

So I have been having quality issues when streaming for a while now. At first I think it was Cool Ideas but plugging directly into the router has shown this is not the case.

Anyone wanna shed some light on ideas I haven't tried or experience with Asus' Aimesh?

Issues:
1. Streaming is not stable on many of the devices in the house including Apple TV and an Android TVBox.
2. Download speeds fluctuate a LOT.
3. Sometimes my phone will not stream a video or load content properly on IG, or websites while in some rooms of the house.

Setup:
1 x ASUS RT-AX92U in Router Mode + AiMesh and 4 Ethernet devices plugged into it.
1 x ASUS RT-AX92U in AiMesh Mode approx 8m and 1 wall from the main router.
1 x ASUS RT-AC52 in AiMesh Mode approx 40m from the main router and separated by 2 rooms and 4 brick walls (one is a double-thick wall). All devices are near windows.

According to the AiMesh software everything is working fine, signal between the first 2 routers is "Great" and between the last and the first is "Good"

The configuration is:
2.4 Ghz + 5.0Ghz Radio 1 are in seamless mode so they advertise the same SSID.
5.0Ghz Radio is dedicate backhaul between the ASUS devices in AiMesh

Everything else is set to auto.

I have around 55 devices altogether including IOT, Streaming Players, Laptops, iPads, TVs etc.

Now, prior to this, I had a Ubiquity Amplify Alien HD + 1 Mesh unit. Those 2 units alone did the WHOLE house without any streaming issues on the same ISP. The house is approx 520sqm2. Since lightning got them, the Insurance would not replace like for like and got the ASUS RT's and then I bought the AC52.

Anyone suggest something that could cause erratic streaming and download speeds?
 
Plug in cables, using WiFi to extend will cause hiccups could even cause hand over or hand shake issues

I thought of this. But I would need to get an installer in to properly fit the CAT6. Before I do that I need to make sure it’s not a product problem lol.

I'm currently running AImesh with 4 AC58-v3s and a AX58 without issues with speed, though I've got them all cabled via cables, I had to put a little switch from my router to the others :-). The only strange thing is if the power trips one of the routers needs to be reconnected to the mesh, but I think I fixed that issue yesterday.

Hmm ok. Seems the Ethernet back haul is probably a good contender for fixing the issue
 
Wired gives you the full speed of the link. Wireless is half that and the further apart the access points are the harder it is to get a good signal. Going wired is worth the investment.
 
Also I can’t decide then if I go Ethernet install then maybe I just sell all the asus kit and get ubiquity APs and connect them to a controller running on a Pi and then build a little pfsense to be the gateway…
 
I run about 5 Asus AI mesh nodes on my property. They all use ethernet backhual and work flawlessy. The pairing process in the beginning is a bit of a pain but once they are set up with ethernet as backhual priority they work 100%. relying on wireless backhual is asking for reliability issues. i generally plug all my devices into the LAN, consoles, TVs etc. the only devices really that use my wifi are my phone and sometimes my laptops.
 
So, i bought an Asus RT-AXE7800 as a primary node and i'm gonna make the RTX-AX92U's the "mesh" units.

But in the process of shutting it all down, I was left with just 1 RTX-ATX92U running in the house and ...voila! the streaming issues on the Android TV on my parents side of the house connected all the way to my study and then worked 100% lol. Its been failing to stream properly forever... now its been streaming fine for 3 hours lol.

Anyway, i'll carry on setting up the new kit and lets see.

Maybe there was too much WiFi

Some interference and congestion perhaps

What is your network topology? Is it set up in a daisy-chain configuration or a star-shaped one? A star-shaped topology, where each mesh node connects directly to the main router, offers superior performance compared to a daisy-chain connection.

No its all nodes connect to main router.

However, the range SUCKS. I don't know if my house was made with steel and lead beams or something lol.

I have this 12-antenna monstrocity in the study - 3 rooms down I put the RTX-AX92U and it says the signal is too weak for Mesh lol. So I have to move them much closer, the problem then is i don't have wall plugs just easily lying around :rolleyes:
 
It seems like you may require a wired connection. If you have DSTV cable ports in those rooms, you can also consider using MoCA as a backhaul. The brick walls in our South African location strongly impede Wi-Fi signals.

& please if you have not already install a surge arrestor in your db board through an electrician
 
I have a similar set up, but with only 2 units. I have seperated the 5 and 2.4, and the 2.4 is a guest network that I use for IoT items. After I did this seperation I have had zero issues with stability or throughput.
